Dr. Decter’s usual practice is to have an initial, brief, telephone conversation with a prospective client to set up an appointment and obtain a very brief understanding of the referral problem.
The first 1-2 meetings involve assessment and history-taking in order to arrive at a clear conceptualization of the client’s problem and develop a treatment plan. Dr. Decter then discusses his understanding of the problem and the possible paths for effective treatment with a client. Together, Dr. Decter and the client mutually agree on a treatment plan and then the work begins. Dr. Decter’s practice is to constantly assess progress and to solicit feedback from his clients so that psychotherapy can be tailored to the needs of each individual client on an ongoing basis.
This will vary depending upon the severity of the difficulties and the treatment plan. Because treatment is individualized clients come weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly depending upon their needs. Although Dr. Decter does not provide crisis services he is available for phone consultation for all of his clients between psychotherapy sessions.
Dr. Decter sets fees based on the fee schedule recommended by the Manitoba Psychological Society. Currently, recommended fees are set at $215.00/hour for both assessments and psychotherapy.
Dr. Decter also has a sliding fee scale. Sliding fee scale rates are set based upon the client’s financial situation, ability to pay and in accordance with a mutually agreed-upon treatment plan.
